NRA CONCLUDES THREE DAYS STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT ON THE REGULATORY FRAMEWORK OF THE ECR IN FREETOWN.

The National Revenue Authority has completed a three-day stakeholder’s engagement on the Legal and technical framework of the Electronic Cash Register in the various NRA tax districts in Freetown.
The events which started with the engagement of taxpayers from the Eastend part of Freetown was replicated in the Central and Westend of the City attracting stakeholders and businesses mainly registered for the goods and services tax (GST). The engagement was to elucidate on various taxpayers’ obligation, the use of the Electronic Cash Register and to amplify the regulatory framework as provided for by the ECR Act of 2021. According to the Deputy Director of Legal and Corporate Services Department Mr. Ibrahim Turay, Government expects business people to not only comply with the use of the machine but also ensure that it is well taken care of to ensure its longevity. He reiterated the penal ramifications on businesses and individuals who fail to ascribe to the various laws governing the use of the ECR device.
The Assistant Commissioner for Design and Monitoring David Lansana in his statement, admonished taxpayers to support the NRA in the implementation and sustainability of the various reforms in order to make taxation much easier for them and the NRA by extension. The program was climaxed by various fruitful discussions on the ECR, it’s use and its regulatory frameworks to enhance an improved revenue mobilization, compliance, and customer service.
It could be recalled that the National Revenue Authority commenced the installation over 5, 000 ECR machines across businesses registered for GST as a way of improving revenue mobilization and compliance.
